What isn't fair is the lack of vision about how to replace lost jobs and how to create growth. Where's the thinking about sustainability and the environment - ie about the future? Surely sensible investment here could reap dividends?

Of course it isn't fair. It's an ideological gamble from the right wing!

NO! David Miliband should definitely NOT quit politics altogether - has the world gone mad??????
David has and will continue to bring a great contribution to British politics for the foreseeable future. Fate has dealt him an alternative card - conventionally or unconventionally, he will make history and can change the future of British politics for the better!
Forget Europe and the world for the moment, Britain's not finished with him yet - he's far too popular to lose this momentum he's gained in attracting new members to the Labour Party amongst many other things!
He may not become Prime Minister but he will always be the People's Minister to the likes of me and lots of others up and down the country who supported and believed in him during the leadership campaign.
I think he would work under Ed but let's face it, especially under the media spotlight, they're never going to stand a chance of success even if they could sort their differences out!
Better if he was given his own space to fulfill other contributions to the future of the Labour Party as a backbencher.
Yes, I am a big fan and proud of it, supporting Ed as Labour leader now also. Admittedly it was really difficult to get used to at first but I'm getting there - the ConDems are our biggest threat today, most importantly!
Long live Labour and the Milibros ;-)

This question in particular could do with being less ambiguous. It really depends how far ahead we're looking. In 50 years time (bear in mind that this has been the figure for a while ) nuclear fusion should be available which would be clean and incredibly plentiful as far as fuel sources are concerned. I suppose eventually they would run out (if the world lasts that long) so perhaps renewables are the ultimate answer.
Btw. Modern nuclear plants aren't dangerous like their historical counterparts-e.g. Chernobyl couldn't happen again with them. The biggest problem with fission is the radioactive waste.
